We’ve had a lovely half-term in Sennen this year. October is always one of our favourite months here: the empty beaches, the mellow light, the sea still being warm (fingers crossed…). But we do like it when the weather takes a turn for the worst too. We always wanted The Loft to be somewhere to curl up and stay warm, and watch a storm roll in. And on Thursday night all the signs were that things were going to get a bit lumpy out there, as they say in Cornwall…
When we refurbished The Loft this year, we made sure we had a storm-resistant front door and windows fitted (check out our Instagram to see how the old windows used to whistle…) and when you get the wind screaming off the Atlantic, you need them. So on Thursday later afternoon, we took a quick sprint up to Mayon Cliff to watch the weather system come in and caught this beautifully moody photo, below. You can just see Longships Lighthouse and the Irish Lady, braced for some big waves. Then we scarpered back to The Loft with the rain spitting at our heels. After we got out all our winter duvets for our autumn guests, it was time to head round to 2 Fore Street, Mousehole, for a seafood curry and a glass of red. Here’s to the cosy nights!
