We love a picnic at The Loft. There’s something about setting out for the day, loaded with food that makes us happy before we’ve even got to the bottom of our blue steps.
Last summer, The Times picked their favourite picnic spots in the UK and Sennen Cove rightly popped up.
Most days in the summer, like everyone else, we head to the beach. But if we fancy a change, we wander over to the cliffs at Mayon, where the ground is soft and springy. At the moment, the cliffs are covered with these tiny flowers – like little stars – so you can sit or lie on the grass in complete comfort.
When the wind blows in the right direction (or hopefully, barely blows at all…) you can’t hear anything but the sea and the birds. Bliss. And there are plenty of flat rocks around to make impromptu picnic tables. Our favourite picnics involve homemade sausage rolls, plenty of salads, banana and lemon muffins and lots of elderflower cordial, but if we’re feeling very lazy it might just be a bottle of red wine, a lump of Cornish cheese from The Old Boathouse stores (Boy Laity Camembert is mighty fine) and fresh bread. We’re lucky to have such a beautiful spot just minutes away, aren’t we? We’ve even been known to walk over to the Look-Out first thing in our PJs with a flask of coffee. Might get some funny looks, but the views more than make up for it…
